Coast Ridge Residence
Portola Valley, California

Scott Lewis Landscape Architecture wove a textured design of regionally-appropriate plantings throughout this contemporary compound of residence and studios, harmonizing the site to its oak woodland surroundings. The horticulturalist-owner’s extensive succulent collection is highlighted in a sculptural planting bed of rough-hewn stone in the central courtyard. Atop the studios, a roof garden of meadow grasses and wildflowers evokes the native character of the surrounding regional open space reserve.
